Events on Psychology & Christian Faith

Oaks events exist to engage the church and community in their healing process with God and others and to bring biblical clarity and theological integration of the Christian faith to psychological topics and issues. Oaks hosts and promotes a wide range of events, including collaborative events open to the general public and others that are closed training sessions for volunteers.
We love to collaborate, and so we also provide information on related events in the community or other churches. For details about any event listed below, or to partner or collaborate with us for an event, contact us at oaks@highpointchurch.org!

Navigating Grief & Loss Event

Do the holidays mark tragedy or complex emotions, instead of joy and cheer? Have you recently experienced loss of relationship, and wonder how to move forward while you feel this way? Have you lost someone or something important to you, but then experience the additional grief of feeling like no one understands? Is your loss shrouded in secrecy or confusion?

Whether you are experiencing grief yourself or you are supporting someone experiencing grief, this seminar will help you more deeply understand the experience of your grief, how to navigate it as it rises and ebbs, and how the Scriptures speak to your experience.

On Saturday, November 15 from 9am -11am Oaks Ministry Collaborative is hosting a seminar on Navigating Grief & Loss with Joyce Carlin, Certified Grief Educator.

  • Location: Crossroads Church, 3815 S Dutch Mill Rd, Madison, WI 53718

  • Snacks and coffee provided

Oaks Volunteer Cohort - cancelled tonight

Hi volunteers!

Unfortunately, I’ve come down with a virus and lost my voice, so we’ll need to cancel tonight’s virtual Oaks cohort meeting. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility!

If you haven’t yet completed the Oaks Volunteer Orientation Course and the Volunteer Collaborator Confidentiality Agreement and form in the last module, tonight could be a great time to finish those steps. :)

The next virtual cohort date is Thursday, December 4 - RSVP here!.

I appreciate each of you and look forward to connecting again soon.

With gratitude,

Jill

Addictions & Faith Event

Addictions & Faith Event

RSVP for the Addictions and Faith Event
It is part of the human condition to seek escape — even salvation — from our pain and problems in many forms, whether through food, phones, videogames, medication, substance use, sex, codependent relationships, or something else. When it comes to faith and the community of the church, it can feel like we need to clean ourselves up and "get better" before we can have relationships with God and others.
But what if...
  • addictions are part of our shared human condition — one that God fully sees and knows, and even empathizes with?
  • God came for those who are thirsty, who feel weak, and who know they need healing and help? (And what if that is actually all of us?)
  • you can bear suffering with another person with peace and strength, without needing to fix the situation?
  • the Church was created and intended to be a redemptive community for us to comfort each other in our pain and to cheer each other on in our recovery and health?
The goal of this event is to open up the conversation in the church about addictions and faith and to provide resources and encouragement for your faith and recovery from whatever hinders you.
SPEAKERS:
  • Kevin Doss - Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor at Anesis Therapy Center
  • Dani Ebben - LCSW, Substance Abuse Counselor at The Center for Christian Counseling
  • Nic Gibson - Author of Substance: Becoming Oaks of Righteousness in a World of Vapor & Lead Pastor of High Point Church
DETAILS:
  • Lunch and coffee are provided
  • Church and community resources available for next steps
  • If you would like to provide resources at the event related to addictions, recovery, and faith, please email us at oaks@highpointchurch.org.
